About The Builders

Marz Homes is a recognized Hamilton based builder committed to providing healthy and sustainable communities. Founded in 1978 by Mike Pompeani, who began his career in the residential construction industry 60 years ago, Marz Homes is now a second-generation family business building homes throughout the Golden Horseshoe.

Marz Homes has twice been awarded the Homeowner Mark of Excellence, a national honour bestowed upon the builder with the top level of customer service in a Canada-wide satisfaction survey, as well as a recent repeat winner of the Hamilton-Halton Homebuilders’ Consumer Choice Award. Marz has also received the Ontario Home Builders Peoples Choice Award.

Building strong communities is a core belief at Marz Homes. As a result, Marz actively supports the Canadian Cancer Society, Mac Kids, An Instrument for Every Child, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Gives Niagara, as well as various other Children’s and arts related initiatives. Their partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society is of particular significance, having raised over $800,000 since 2007 to help support cancer research. Their efforts were recognized by the CCS when they named Marz Homes their Corporate Citizen of the Year.

It all started when Edward Ratcliffe emigrated to Canada from England and took advantage of Hamilton’s emergence as an industrial city. Housing was a priority, and Ratcliffe built his first house on Cannon Street in central Hamilton under E.B. Ratcliffe Builder in 1906.

As Edward developed a name for himself, it became evident that his personal commitment to the building industry would be unsurpassed. His vision for honesty and dedication were continued by his daughter Bettina and her husband Charlie Campbell, who became building leaders in their own right under the name Abbotsford Homes.

Ward Campbell took over as president of the company in 1979 and with sister Lydia and her husband, Jan Szostak, the trio formed Starward Homes as a successor to Abbotsford.

Today, the family business spans four generations under Brandon Campbell, President, and Carley Campbell, Vice President, who carry the tradition and commitment of building homes the only way they know how – with a complete and total focus on turning dreams into reality.
